The search for the next James Bond is now underway as Amazon moves forward with its reboot of the long-running franchise. After Daniel Craig’s final appearance in No Time to Die in 2021, the studio gained full creative control and is pushing ahead with a new era for the iconic spy.
One of the first reported actors to enter the audition process is Tom Francis, a 26-year-old performer with limited screen experience. Francis has appeared in Netflix projects including Jay Kelly and You, but he is better known for his stage work. He won an Olivier Award in 2024 for his role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard and also received a Tony nomination.

His inclusion signals a clear shift in casting strategy. Nina Gold, who is leading the search and is known for her work on Game of Thrones and the Star Wars sequel films, is reportedly looking for a younger actor who can bring strong on-screen appeal. Industry reports say the role requires someone who can command attention and carry the franchise long term. Francis fits that mold as a fresh face with proven acting ability, even if his film resume remains thin.
Francis is also set to appear in the upcoming Netflix film The Mosquito Bowl, directed by Peter Berg. The World War II sports drama features Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård. That role could offer a clearer look at how he performs on screen, though it remains unclear how he would translate into a global franchise lead.

Several established names are still circulating as frontrunners. Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi, Theo James from The Gentlemen, and Henry Cavill continue to draw attention in ongoing speculation. At the same time, some contenders are being ruled out. A spokesperson for Shōgun actor Cosmo Jarvis confirmed he is not auditioning and is no longer being considered.
The casting process is expected to continue over the coming months as Amazon and its creative team narrow the field. Director Denis Villeneuve is attached to guide the next chapter, which raises expectations for both tone and scale. The decision will likely shape not just the next film, but the long-term direction of the Bond brand as it adapts to a changing entertainment market.
The outcome carries financial weight as well. Bond remains one of the most valuable film properties in the world, and Amazon’s handling of the reboot will be closely watched across the industry. A younger, lesser-known lead could signal a reset aimed at longevity, but it also comes with risk if audiences fail to connect.
