New X-Files Movie Trailer Brings a Darker Twist; Can It Fix a Flop?

Chris Carter’s The X-Files debuted in 1993 and quickly pulled viewers into a world where two FBI agents chased bizarre, supernatural cases. The show built its name on aliens, UFOs, cryptids, ghosts, and other unsettling threats, but its two movie spinoffs did not land with the same force. The first film, The X-Files: Fight the Future, leaned hard into sci-fi and government cover-up story lines tied to alien life. The second, 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe, took a more self-contained route and followed Fox Mulder, played by David Duchovny, and Dana Scully, played by Gillian Anderson, as they worked a darker, more personal case.
