NYCC’24: The Bandai booth tour shows us what’s in store for 2025

1 month ago 6

Was there a company other than Bandai with a bigger footprint on the New York Comic Con 2024 show floor? I don’t think there was. Bandai had a massive presence at NYCC ’24, with its various subsidiaries taking over not just aisles, but blocks of the show floor. The section of the floor closest to the main entrance was basically Bandai City. A Bandai staffer explained it to me as, “You can sell a figure to anybody, but we’re more invested in building memories and experiences.”

And many experiences were to be had, from photo ops with Godzilla and Ultraman to different booth activations that allowed fans to feel like they were a superpowered hero. But surrounding all that was a lot of action figures and models, many of which won’t be on store shelves until next year. “It’s very much a preorder business,” the Bandai staffer told me. Here are some toys and models coming from Bandai that you can look forward to now and next year.

But the biggest success of the Bandai area was surely their Gashapon machines. They had over 200 facings of the small vending machines on the show floor, and they were constantly packed with people from opening to closing. Fan who can’t get enough of Gashapon can find more of them at the American Dream mall in New Jersey, and at BOOKOFF in Massapequa, NY.
