The following contains major spoilers for Mystique #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
One of the greatest assassins in the entire Marvel Universe has her sights set on the world's new S.H.I.E.L.D. While the titular mutant superspy of Mystique #1 is busy traversing the globe in search of answers regarding the new S.H.I.E.L.D., one Nick Fury Jr. is busy chasing down whatever leads he can in regard to how Mystique has managed to carry out multiple clandestine missions halfway across the globe from one another at the very same time.
Unfortunately for both of them, neither seems to be coming into any firm answers anytime soon. And, even worse for Fury, he has already fallen far behind the competition, as the bomb Mystique planted in his home more than proves in a particularly fiery fashion.

One of the most infamous and storied mutants in the entire Marvel Universe, Mystique made her first proper albeit cameo appearance in 1978's Ms. Marvel #16 by Chris Claremont and Jim Mooney. Mystique was working deep undercover within the United States military, impersonating both Nick Fury and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine along the way. While she had made her name at the time as the founder of the third iteration of the Brotherhood of Mutants, it wasn't long before Mystique was working with the full backing of the United States government as the leader of the Freedom Force.
In the decades since, Mystique's story and personal history have expanded in demonstrable ways. Apart from shocking personal revelations regarding her familial ties to the likes of Nightcrawler, Mystique has been at the center of some of the most harrowing storylines of all time. During the Krakoan Era, Mystique stood in direct opposition to her fellow mutant leaders time and time again, yet she consistently proved herself to be a capable and considerate figure, even if her personal interests and ambitions weren't always aligned with the Quiet Council's greater goals for mutant-kind as a whole.

Nick Fury Jr. made his Marvel Comics debut in 2011's Battle Scars #1 by writers Chris Yost, Cullen Bunn, and Matt Fraction and artist Scot Eaton. Introduced as Marcus Johnson, the son of the original Nick Fury spent most of his life with no clue as to what his true lineage was. After rising through the ranks of the military, Johnson found himself embroiled in a superpowered conspiracy that ultimately paved the way for the truth to be revealed. Since then, Nick Fury Jr. has maintained a frequently contentious relationship with his father, though not without proving himself to be every bit the agent that the name would imply.

X-Men
Since their debut in 1963, Marvel's X-Men have been more than just another superhero team. While the team really hit its stride as the All New, All Different X-Men in 1975, Marvel's heroic mutants have always operated as super-outcasts, protecting a world that hates and fears them for their powers.
Key members of the X-Men include Professor X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, Beast, Rogue, and Storm. Often framed as the world's second strongest superheroes, after the Avengers, they are nonetheless one of Marvel's most popular and important franchises.
