Daisy Ridley may have to wait a little longer before reprising her role as Rey in a new Star Wars film. The latest news has Steven Knight departing from the planned film, but director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains attached to the project.
Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, had previously replaced Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson who were the first to work the project.
Ridley said recently at SXSW that she knew “bits and bobs” of the new story, possibly featuring Rey starting a new Jedi Academy, but she is still waiting on a script. Deadline says that it’s still early enough in the process that the departure shouldn’t effect the two release dates being held for Star Wars films, December 18th, 2026 and December 17th, 2027.
I think they’d be wise to scrap this project altogether.
