Pirates 6: Depp Wants a Bit More Than Another Sequel

Disney’s next Pirates of the Caribbean movie needs a story worth telling. Johnny Depp seems to agree. The actor says he’s open to returning as Captain Jack Sparrow, but he wants to help give the series a better ending. That isn’t a promise to return. It’s a reason Disney should take the script seriously. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Depp said his interest depends on how the franchise will wrap up. “The only involvement I really want to have, truly, is just to send them off on a better note,” he said. He stopped short of confirming he’d signed on for a sixth film. His trust in producer Jerry Bruckheimer could help make a return possible. Depp said he’d work with Bruckheimer again on any project. That gives Disney an opening, though it doesn’t mean the studio and its former leading man have settled every issue. A possible reunion still isn’t a done deal. Bruckheimer has confirmed that talks with Depp are underway while work continues on the screenplay.
