Poison Ivy Just Made a Major Breakthrough With Gotham Citys Dark Knight

The following contains major spoilers for Poison Ivy #27, on sale now from DC Comics.

Poison Ivy just convinced the Dark Knight to put his faith in her, and it could change everything about her place in Gotham City.

With the rise of the eco-terrorist organization known as the Order of the Green Knight, the titular antihero of Poison Ivy #27 stands poised as what seems like Gotham City's biggest threat. Unfortunately, Poison Ivy doesn't have anything to do with the Order of the Green Knight apart from being the subject of their twisted obsessions. While it isn't any surprise that the situation has landed Poison Ivy on the top of Batman's list of persons of interest, the fact that he genuinely trusts her to do the right thing about it most certainly is.

Pamela Isley, better known as Poison Ivy, has long been counted among the Caped Crusader's most iconic foes, with her first appearance taking place all the way back in 1966's Batman #181 by Robert Kanigher and Sheldon Moldoff. Once an ordinary if brilliant botanist, Pamela's life took a drastic turn when she was exposed to toxins that completely transformed her. Apart from being imbued with near-total immunity from all manner of poisons and toxins, Poison Ivy's florokinetic abilities make her a genuine threat in any situation.

Although Poison Ivy has classically played the role of a villain, she has only grown more complex in the decades since her debut. In more recent years, Poison Ivy has become a nuanced antivillain rather than any sort of overtly evil or chaotic antagonist. This has driven Poison Ivy to stand up against the real villains of the world, including her modern-day creator and nemesis, the Floronic Man. During her latest fight with the Floronic Man, Poison Ivy gave up her own life in order to defeat her foe, only to be resurrected by the power of Slaughter Swamp just as Solomon Grundy had been so many years prior.

The latest addition to DC Comics' famous The Long Halloween saga has just thrown Batman for a spin that could destroy his entire legacy.

Although Poison Ivy's latest encounter with Batman was far from a team-up, the Dark Knight is hardly the only strange bedfellow she has come into contact with in recent memory. In the pages of Poison Ivy/Swamp Thing: Feral Trees #1 by G. Willow Wilson and Mike Perkins, the eponymous unlikely duo come across the fabled Kettle Hole Devil, another representative of The Green who hasn't been seen in years. The last time readers glimpsed the Kettle Hole Devil, he had seemingly lost his life alongside the rest of the Parliament of Trees.

Batman is one of the oldest comic superheroes, with nearly a century of comics, TV-shows, films, and video games. The mild-mannered Bruce Wayne becomes Gotham City's caped crusader, protecting it from villains like The Joker, Killer Croc, The Penguin, and more. Batman is also one of DC comics' "Big Three" alongside Superman and Wonder Woman, and together the three help keep the earth safe as founding members of the Justice League.
