Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

Fictional characters tend to change appearances frequently, but are often defined by one signature look by most fans. For instance, in the eyes of most people, the definitive image of the Power Rangers comes from television and not necessarily from comics... unless they are drawn by Dan Mora.

The celebrated artist's depiction of the action-packed phenomenon is being celebrated with a new book called The Power Rangers Art of Dan Mora.

The book, published in a joint effort by BOOM! Studios and Penguin Random House is a 176-page collection of some of Mora's most notable creations from his career in bringing the Power Rangers to life on the comic book page. The hardcover release includes full-page illustrations, pages demonstrating the Costa Rican artist's character design process, and even some bonus materials that dive even further into his approach to reinventing the iconic teens chosen to defend Earth from otherworldly evil.

The official logline for the book is a loving tribute to Mora for playing an invaluable role in redefining the Power Rangers for modern-day comic book readers, especially from a visual standpoint.

"The acclaimed visionary’s art in one stunning collection! From international bestsellers to superhero icons, Dan Mora’s dynamic artwork has captivated readers around the globe as one of the most sought-after artists in modern comics. His contributions to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic series have redefined the visual identity of the franchise for a new generation. And now, this artbook gathers his most striking visuals from the series’ earliest conception–including full-page illustrations, character design process pages, and bonus material highlighting his creative approach to its iconic heroes and villains. Whether you’re a lifelong Power Rangers fan or a devoted Mora follower, this is the morphinominal collection you’ve been waiting for!"

The dawn of the Power Rangers was the 1993 premiere of the popular children's TV show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which was an Americanized rebranding of Japan's Super Sentai and even used original footage from the sci-fi action series' battle sequences. The smash-hit inspired a successful toyline, feature films, and a countless, ongoing rotation of TV reboots, including a new Power Rangers series in the works for Disney+ currently.

The franchise's presence in the comic book industry has existed almost as long as the TV shows have, with Hamilton Comics releasing the first run of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in 1994 before Marvel assumed the rights the following year. The property would be passed down between multiple publishers before Boom! Studios acquired the license in 2015.

A Brief History of Dan Mora Drawing The Power Rangers

Dan Mora's reputation as one of the most acclaimed artists for Power Rangers comics dates back to the 2017 launch of Saban's Go Go Power Rangers, a prequel spin-off of Boom! Studios' Mighty Morphin Power Rangers run, which sheds light on the eponymous heroes' lives outside of protecting Angel Grove. He served as penciler and inker on the comic written by Ryan Parrott, with whom he would collaborate on many other related projects.

The writer and artist would work together on the creation of the Ranger Slayer, which is an alternate reality variant of Pink Ranger Kimberly Hart, who initially serves as an antagonist foil for the main timeline Rangers. Mora also introduced designs that were fully unique to the franchise, including the Eltarian armor worn by Rangers' wizard mentor, Zordon, and the Omega Rangers, which were a special faction of the team created for the comic to explain Jason, Zack, and Trini's absence from the original TV show.

Of course, Mora's notoriety extends beyond his acclaimed contributions to the legacy of the Power Rangers, having lent his talents to iconic titles like Batman/Superman: World's Finest. DC recently unveiled a special variant cover for Batman: Bad Seeds, an upcoming crossover event launching in Aug. 2026, that he designed.

The Power Rangers Art of Dan Mora hits the shelves on Aug. 25., with a retail price of $29.99.
