Posted on August 10, 2026 by Neil Cole The Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills will present a rare 70mm screening of the 1978 superhero classic “Superman: The Movie” on Sunday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m., as part of its “2nd Sunday 70mm Plus” and “70mm DC Superheroes” series. Directed by Richard Donner and starring Christopher Reeve as Superman, the landmark film follows the Man of Steel from his escape from the doomed planet Krypton and upbringing by Jonathan and Martha Kent to his arrival in Metropolis, where he adopts the dual identities of Superman and Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent. The film also stars Margot Kidder as Lois Lane and Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor. The presentation will feature John Williams’ iconic score with magnetic sound. The theater cautions that the print has a red tint and says it may be the only opportunity to experience the film in this format with its original magnetic soundtrack. Patrons are advised to attend at their own risk, and the theater has stated that there will be no refunds. “Superman: The Movie” was released in 1978, carries a PG rating and has a runtime of 2 hours and 23 minutes.
