Ridley Scott’s Alien franchise may be hitting another roadblock, and this one could stall the next chapter for a while. Reports now say 20th Century has shelved the planned sequel to Alien: Romulus indefinitely, with no clear path for the project to move ahead. The news lands after Alien: Romulus proved the series still had plenty of life. Directed by Fede Álvarez, the 2024 film followed a group of young space colonists who break away from a mining planet, only to run into Facehuggers and Xenomorphs on a derelict space station. It was a major box office win, pulling in more than $350.9 million worldwide against a reported $80 million budget. According to World of Reel, Álvarez had been working on a sequel before leaving the project during pre-production. The report says he wanted Michael Fassbender’s David back in the story, the synthetic character from Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.
