Seven Year Bitch: Reflecting On Bleeding Fool’s 7 Year Run

1 month ago 29

Happy 7th birthday to Bleeding Fool, your alternative source for comic book news, reviews, and all-things geek culture! Over the past seven years, since October 10, 2017 to be precise, Bleeding Fool has tried to provide a unique perspective on the world of “geek news,” offering what we hoped would be a refreshing alternative to those highly revered comic book websites that more often than not prioritize progressive liberal politics over balanced and unbiased reporting.

Initially inspired by the lefty activism of most sites, especially Bleeding Kewl, along with their anti-free speech approach to the comments section, we realized there were very few news outlets for entertainment that weren’t run by outright progressive leftists who insisted on cheerleading content that pushed “the message.” We’ve aimed to help remedy that and kicked things off by satirizing the very website that censored our editor in chief for the “wrong think” of postulating on how Marvel Comics somehow had a massive hit despite not promoting X-Men #94 (August 1975) as “diverse and inclusive.”

So with a stated mission to become a reliably alternative source for comic book news and entertainment, Bleeding Fool has carved out a niche for itself by pushing back against the creeping political propaganda and virtue-signaling that has become increasingly prevalent in the market, and medium, by sharing blogs, articles, videos, and podcasts that present geek-related views, news, and entertainment in an entertaining and informative way.

So, on the occasion of our anniversary, how about a few toasts by a few of our most popular contributors?

“Bleeding Fool came on my radar with their explosive Whisper Network expose. It was a spotlight on the corrupt comic book industry and spurred me to become more involved in the culture war. The Bleeding Fool was gracious enough to open its arms to an unproven contributor to help continue weeding out the rot that has infected popular culture. Bleeding Fool continues to be the tip of the spear, reporting on every industry while also championing independent creators creating new culture. We all look forward to another seven years of growth and success.” ~ Victor James

“I want to thank outlets like Bleeding Fool for being a voice of common sense in fandom, and allowing a common geek like me an opportunity to be part of this platform of fans and fools. I know we won’t all agree on everything, but we have commonality in our love of geeky nerd-dom. Here’s looking to another year of fandom news, opinions, and reviews of the stuff we all like!” ~ Shark of Paper

“Much can be said about passion these days. You see it on display everywhere. In every conceivable form. On every conceived platform of social media, or to use a swiftly aging and antiquated set of words, broadcasting format. What we love, or love to despise, can be put forth into the ethers with the speed of Mercury. These ever present years, and very moments in fact, have never been so accessible. Which is why something such as Bleeding Fool means so much to so many. It is a voice, be it in print, echoing the passions of its readers and writers over the vast egregor of things.” ~ Lucas Paris

“Readers and ranters, let’s all raise your cup of coffee to this fabulous website, a real beacon of truth in a sea of lies. I am proud to be a part of a place online where ideas flow freely, and no topic is off-limits. So, let’s drink to all the bleeding fools who dare to speak their minds and challenge our perceptions. Cheers!”  ~ Karina Smitt

“Has it already been seven years?  Wow. I don’t go back quite that far and only got serious about submitting work in early 2019. There are several things that set Bleeding Fool apart from the crowd.  For one thing, it allows people to argue in the comments, which is increasingly rare.  Perhaps this is because the commenters tend to be cut above what one finds elsewhere.

There have also been some wonderful back-and-forths with my colleagues, which is also rare these days.  I guess one could say that the promise of the early internet is still alive at Bleeding Fool.

This is why it is so important.  It’s a site run by real people with life experience, not endlessly online corporate shills begging for their next crust of Disney-branded bread.

For me, the decisive moment was the war over NuBattlestar Galactica, and it would have been the easiest thing in the world for the management to bow to howling outrage mob, but Bleeding Fool stood firm.  Far from backing down to the cries of “Sexist!  Racist!” the unhinged posts and downvotes were music to their ears, proof that we had struck a nerve.  That’s when I knew that Bleeding Fool was the real deal, and I think that was also when the wokes learned they had no power here, and quietly disappeared.

Here’s to another seven years of bleeding foolishness!” ~ A.H. Lloyd

After seven years of training our spell checkers to make mistakes, Bleeding Fool pledges to continue to provide our readers with diversity of thought, honest perspectives and opinions rather than shilling for the major entertainment studios, and celebrating those movies, tv shows, comics, and more that merit it, and calling out the garbage that stinks. In the meantime, we’ll continue to welcome feedback and discussion in the comments sections, so long as it doesn’t devolve into name-calling.

As the site lives on, we remain committed to offering a unique and entertaining take on the world of geek news, ensuring that readers like you have access to a variety of voices and viewpoints, including a sample of those normally censored pro-American and conservative Christian points of view as well.

So, happy anniversary to Bleeding Fool, a true alternative source for comic book news and all-things geek culture! Here’s to seven more years of entertaining and informative content!
