Shōgun Season 2 Update: Filming Is Officially Complete

Shōgun is moving closer to its long-awaited return. FX’s hit historical drama has finished filming its second season after beginning principal photography in late January. According to ScreenRant, production lasted nearly eight months. The series still faces post-production work, and FX has not announced a release date. But the end of filming is a major step for fans who have waited since the first season became one of television’s biggest successes in 2024. The first season of Shōgun rejected the usual Hollywood formula. It told its story through a mostly Japanese cast, Japanese dialogue, subtitles, and a setting rooted in 1600s Japan. Audiences responded anyway. The show became a global hit and proved viewers will follow a strong story without being spoon-fed a simplified version of another culture. Shōgun won a record 18 Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series. It became the first mostly non-English-language series to win the award. Season 2 takes place 10 years after the first season.
