As Erica carries on with her search for the beast that has been terrorizing a small town, Victor St. Georges is busy interrogating a young girl who helped Erica hunt down another nightmarish monster. Though the Order of St. Georges is clearly unhappy with Erica's lone-wolf tendencies, they are more than impressed with her abilities and resolve, so much so that they set in motion a series of trials she has yet to see coming.

Something is Killing the Children debuted in August 2019 and immediately became a smash hit with readers. The series follows the life and exploits of Erica Slaughter, a roving monster hunter who slays all manner of beasts wherever she finds them. Vicious, cannibalistic horrors, the monsters of Something is Killing the Children and the threat they pose gave rise to the Order of St. Georges, an ancient organization dedicated to protecting humanity from both the monsters themselves and the truth of the matter by any means necessary. This frequently means killing innocent bystanders and survivors of monster attacks merely for witnessing what they shouldn't. This and a myriad of other concerning aspects of life within the Order of St. Georges ultimately drive Erica Slaughter away from them, setting off a deep-seated feud that only adds more tragic victims to the series' ever-expanding body count.

In early 2023, it was announced that Baran bo Adar and Jante Friese, the acclaimed creators of Dark and 1899, had been hired to write and direct a live-action adaptation of Something is Killing the Children for Netflix. The project was the first series of a then recently signed multi-year deal Adar and Friese reached with the streaming giant. Original series creator and scribe James Tynion IV said of the news, "Bo and Jante have spent the last few years making some of the best genre television in the world. I couldn't be more thrilled that they're working to bring Erica Slaughter to life."
