The following contains major spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #61, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Spider-Man's new epic just kicked off with the introduction of the Wall-Crawler's new suit — which comes with a slew of new powers.
During what should be a normal day patrolling New York City in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #61, Peter Parker finds himself beset by Doctor Doom bearing an offer he is quick to refuse. Unfortunately, when a demonic Scion of Cyttorak appears later that day, the only hope Spider-Man has of stopping the threat is the new Sorcerer Supreme. By accepting Doom's offer, Spider-Man gains great insight into exactly what kind of threat he is dealing with, not to mention a new super suit and powers to go along with it.

Amazing Spider-Man #61 officially kicks off the events of Marvel's "The Eight Deaths of Spider-Man," which was previewed in a backup story by Joe Kelly, Emilio Laiso, and Rachelle Rosenberg from Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #0. This story saw Khonshu, the God of the Moon, have a particularly awkward conversation with Cyttorak regarding what the future holds for them. The story ended with a cutaway shot of Spider-Man and Spider-Boy swinging together across the New York City skyline, all while a full Blood Moon rises overhead.
In October, Marvel released a trailer for "The Eight Deaths of Spider-Man" along with an official synopsis for Amazing Spider-Man #61 reading, "THE 8 DEATHS OF SPIDER-MAN BEGIN! The world has changed, Doctor Doom is Sorcerer Supreme, but he has no plans to spend his time like his predecessor… Each year, Doctor Strange would use every ounce of his power and experience to save the world from an evil god and his scions. True Believer, they won’t be enough…"

Doctor Doom first set his sights on Spider-Man as Earth's new champion in Joe Kelly and Mark Buckingham's "Ride Over" from the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #60. "Ride Over" saw Spider-Man face off against the villainous Override, all while the new Sorcerer Supreme watched on from afar. Though Doctor Doom has encountered Spider-Man countless times previously, he has rarely extended an offer of such great magnitude to any of his foes. In order to stand against the Scions of Cyttorak, however, Doom has given Spider-Man access to a portion of his own mystical power thorugh his new armor, as well as eight of the fabled Reeds of Raggadorr, which are each capable of returning the Wall-Crawler to life should he fall in battle.

Spider-Man
Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics' most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man's most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character's lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O'Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.
Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he's changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
