Per the official synopsis for the series from Marvel Comics, Black Cat will see its titular hero go up against all manner of classic villains, ranging from the Lizard to the Kingpin of Crime. This drastic shift for the character will come about thanks to the events of Amazing Spider-Man #8 and #9, which will feature an explosive encounter between the Wall-Crawler and the ominous foe known as Hellgate. Apart from marking a change of pace for its lead hero, Black Cat also marks the first ongoing series for G. Willow Wilson since the end of her iconic run on Ms. Marvel.

Wilson opened up about the series, as well as how her Black Cat story from Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood helped pave the way for it in the first place. "As soon as Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood dropped and people saw the Black Cat story, readers began to ask me 'When are you going to write more Felicia?' Well, the answer is: right now," Wilson said. "Black Cat is so much fun to work with. She's a supporting character with main character energy. And she has such a rich history that there are tons of tantalizing story threads to pull on."

Artist Gleb Melnikov also touched on his excitement for the series after previously illustrating Felicia Hardy in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man. "I was itching to draw more of Felicia after finishing my first Spider-Man issue, so when [Editor] Tom Groneman asked if I was interested in working on the Black Cat series, I typed 'YES!' faster than a lightning bolt," Melnikov said. "Black leather, street-level fights, and the chance to draw our favorite usual suspects from Spidey's rogues gallery? Sign me up! Not to mention I'm very excited to work with Willow and color artist Brian Valenza."

Black Cat #1 will be on sale August 20 from Marvel Comics.
