Spotify Releases Exclusive "Superman" Character Playlists Curated by Director James Gunn

With just days remaining until the highly anticipated release of "Superman", Spotify and DC Studios have joined forces with writer-director James Gunn to deliver an exclusive musical experience that dives deep into the emotional world of the film's characters.

Starting today, Spotify listeners around the globe can access a series of hand-curated playlists inspired by key figures from the upcoming film, including Clark Kent, Lex Luthor, Eve Teschmacher, Metamorpho, and The Engineer. Each playlist has been personally assembled by Gunn, who also provides exclusive commentary explaining the inspiration behind each selection and how the songs reflect the inner lives of the characters.

"These playlists are more than just background music," Gunn says in a video accompanying the release. "I probably had more fun doing this than anything else I've done in the past couple of years... I had to really think about who they were as people and imagine what kind of music they'd be into."

Highlights of the first wave of playlists include:

• Clark Kent: Uplifting rock anthems like Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" and Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle," evoking the hope and optimism that define Superman.

• Lex Luthor: A sharp, ego-driven mix featuring "Fame" by David Bowie and Sparks' "This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us."

• Eve Teschmacher: Pop-forward tracks such as "Manchild" by Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift's "Blank Space," capturing the essence of Metropolis' ultimate it-girl.

• Metamorpho: A wistful, synth-heavy blend including "Digging Your Scene" by The Blow Monkeys and "I Was Never a Normal Boy" by Nightmare of You.

• The Engineer: An intense, industrial-influenced set anchored by Nine Inch Nails' "La Mer" and Burial's "Archangel."

Fans won't have to wait long for more. Additional character playlists for Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen will debut on July 8, with final drops for Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern set to go live on Superman's nationwide release date - July 11, 2025.

The Spotify collaboration is part of a larger promotional rollout for Superman, which marks the first feature in DC Studios' new cinematic slate. The film stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and is directed by James Gunn.

"Superman" opens in theaters and IMAX nationwide on July 11, 2025.
