Star Trek Faces a Streaming Gap as Paramount+ Eyes a New Era

Star Trek is heading toward the end of its current streaming run, but Paramount+ says it is already working on what comes next. The franchise turns 60 on Sept. 8, marking six decades since Star Trek: The Original Series first aired in 1966. The anniversary arrives as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds airs its fourth season on Paramount+. Its fifth season will be its last. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is also expected to end after its second season in 2027. That schedule means Paramount+ could soon face its first gap without a new Star Trek series since the streaming push began in 2017 with Star Trek: Discovery. Still, Jane Wiseman, Paramount+ executive vice president and head of originals, said the company is not walking away from one of its most important brands. Wiseman told Deadline that Paramount+ has been meeting with writers and working with CBS Studios to find the next version of Star Trek.
