Recently, Marvel's Star Wars comic book line has been doing an amazing job specifically spotlighting the "lost" moments in Star Wars history. The important turning points that hadn't been shown in a movie or TV show, but still played major roles in the birth of the Rebellion.
Most notably, as part of its celebration of the 10th anniversary of the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Marvel has been doing one-shots featuring key untold stories starring the various major players in Rogue One, and in this CBR exclusive preview of July's Star Wars: Rogue One - Saw Gerrera #1, we see a very early Saw Gerrera mission at the start of the Empire that shows the punishment Saw was willing to put his body through to get the job done.

• After proving himself in the CLONE WARS, SAW GERRERA was a soldier for the cause of freedom and was willing to do anything to secure it – including leading a mission deep into IMPERIAL territory.
• At stake: information that would provide a tactical advantage that could shift the balance of power in the REBELS’ favor!
• But is the price to be paid for that information too high?
32 PGS./ONE-SHOT/Rated T …$4.99
In the preview pages, we see that the story is set in the very early years of the Empire (17 BBY is seventeen years before the Battle of Yavin in Star Wars: A New Hope), and a terrorist attack takes place at an Imperial base. People are sent in to collect the dead Stormtroopers from the attack.
Droids check the Stormtroopers for life signs, and move on to other matters. That is when one of the Stormtroopers then suddenly wakes up, and we see that it is a young Saw Gerrera, who used a mysterious drug to put himself into a death-like state to fool their scanners so that he could infiltrate their base by posing as a dead Stormtrooper.
As we know from his later appearances, Saw's body is in rough shape by the time he dies in Rogue One, so this shows what he is willing to do to his body for the greater good. To see the rest of the mission, though, you'll have to wait for July! Preorder your copy now!
