Adventure Time's first-ever Halloween special will arrive on Sept. 30 from Oni Press as a special "spooky-sized" 48-page one-shot story. Cover art for the jumbo-sized issue was shared by Screen Rant, including a synopsis that teases what scary adventures Finn and Jake will go on when the issue goes on sale. "Boo...from the land of Ooo!" Oni Press teases. "From writer Jeremy Melloul (Dungeon Masters Guild) and rising star Adam Seats, noble heroes Finn and Jake enter their trickiest situation yet in this spooky-sized 48-page special that's definitely a treat!"
Adventure Time's First Halloween Special Arrives This Fall
The official synopsis for the issue reveals that it will follow Finn and Jake after they sign up for a new quest from the Adventurer's Guild. But when they fail to read the fine print, they'll find themselves trapped in a new dungeon and "transformed into monsters themselves."
"Stuck in strange bodies, fighting familiar faces, and attempting to get to the bottom of this mysterious place, can our dynamic duo best this unearthly dungeon or will they fall victim to the monsters within... and within themselves?"
Cover art for the issue, including a series of colorful variants, was also shared. In the images, Finn and Jake can be seen bravely fighting some scary monsters, some of which even look like twisted, monstrous versions of beloved Adventure Time characters that fans will be familiar with.
The original Adventure Time series ran on Cartoon Network from 2010-2018, spawning 283 episodes, each one seeing Finn and Jake going on wild adventures in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo and interacting with other inhabitants like Princess Bubblegum, the Ice King and Marceline the Vampire Queen. Following its conclusion, three spin-offs have followed — Distant Lands, which ran from 2020 to 2021, 2023's Fionna and Cake, and the recently released and highly anticipated Side Quests.
As for Finn and Jake's comic adventures, Oni Press launched a new monthly Adventure Time series back in 2025. Before that, KaBoom! Studios launched its own series in 2012 with Ryan North and featuring art by Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb. In 2014, North departed the title, and Christopher Hastings took over until the line ended in 2018 with its 75th issue.
Adventure Time's Quadruple Feature Spin-Off Just Launched
Image via Cartoon NetworkThe upcoming Halloween one-shot is part of a larger comics effort from Oni Press involving the Adventure Time franchise. A four-part 'quadruple feature' debuted on July 1, with its first issue seeing Jake, Marceline, BMO, and Lumpy Space Princess arriving at their local movie theater with four very different ideas about what to watch.
The synopsis teases how the characters will handle their dilemma: "What’s a stretchy dog, a vampire queen, a princess, and, er, BMO to do? Easy! Four separate tickets, please!" The opening issue tackles Jake's movie of choice first, which is "the famed 1940s screwball comedy What’s Up, Princess?" The second issue will detail Marceline's film when it arrives in August, and the third issue is planned to highlight BMO's film when it drops in September.
The Adventure Time Halloween Special goes on sale on Sept. 30. from Oni Press.
