The Next Big Marvel Event Has Finally Arrived

The following contains major spoilers for Imperial #1, on sale June 4 from Marvel Comics.

Marvel Comics' next interstellar comic book event is almost here, and it is already shaping up to be everything fans were hoping it would be.

In a preview for the upcoming Imperial #1 from Marvel Comics, readers can see Amadeus Cho, Jennifer Walters, and Bruce Banner all hurtling through space aboard a ship steadily passing through the gateway that connects the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies. Unfortunately, this is no family getaway or planned vacation, but a trek across the cosmos to the world of Sakaar En Nevo. As it turns out, the Hulk has come looking to avenge the death of his son, and like its predecessor, the world of Sakaar En Nevo is full of otherwise formidable foes who have no idea who exactly they are up against.

Heroes from both franchises appear together on Jim Lee's Marvel vs DC cover.

Imperial #1 is set to kick off a whole new kind of interstellar epic for Marvel Comics. The first issue will play out across four chapters entitled "Light the Pyre of Hiro Kala," "Through the Fulcrum," "Poison the Water, Poison the Well," and "Nature Abhors a Vacuum." While the first of these chapters features the Hulk and his gamma-irradiated allies, the others are set to feature similarly prominent Marvel Comics icons who have made a name for themselves among the stars, including the Black Panther and an obscured Accuser.

Writer Jonathan Hickman recently explained how Imperial is tailor-made to set up years of other stories to come. "I'm very excited about this project as I’m obviously a huge fan of all things Marvel Cosmic," Hickman said. "The goal here is to kind of do what we did with the recent Ultimate line for all of our space titles, except having the setup book, Imperial, be more of an event than a world-building exercise (like Ultimate Invasion). The art team is killing it, and we’re all just very excited for what’s happening in this special corner of the Marvel Universe."

Marvel Comics is revisiting a heartbreaking chapter from Eddie Brock's past in a whole new way with Venom: Original Sin.

Per the official synopsis for Imperial #1 from Marvel Comics, "Imperial finds the galaxies of the Marvel Universe on the brink of major upheaval, following the elimination of several of its most prominent leaders. Nature abhors a vacuum, and empires fall, rulers are overthrown and power is seized in a saga of intrigue, mysteries and war, all taking place against the backdrop of the formation of new galactic order in the Marvel Universe." This effectively promises some major changes to the status quo of the Marvel Universe, or at least to its most forward-facing cosmic characters.
