The official solicit synopsis for The Phantom vs. the Singh Brotherhood #1 from Mad Cave Studios reads, "It's all come down to this — The Phantom vs. Arif Singh and his Brotherhood! After the Brotherhood's failed attack on Bangalla, Singh was all set to rot in prison. But concrete walls cannot stop the man who controls one of the most notorious criminal enterprises in the world. Only The Phantom can. Or this time, he might just die trying."

Created by the legendary Lee Falk, the pulp icon known as the Phantom first appeared in his own titular comic series originally published by King Features Syndicate all the way back in 1936. In the classic series, Christopher Walker, occasionally renamed Christopher Standish, very nearly lost his life when his ship was attacked off the coast of the fictional African nation of Bangallain in the 1500s. Fortunately, Christopher was saved by a local tribe, who showed him the mysterious power of their homeland and gave rise to the very first Phantom.

Centuries later, Kit Walker was born in the very same cave where Christopher first found the power of The Ghost Who Walks, cementing his eventual place as The Phantom of the 20th, now 21st century. In the decades since the character was first introduced, The Phantom has gone from a pulp phenomenon to one of the most underrated heroes of all time, even in spite of numerous adaptations across nearly every medium.

The Phantom's Return To Comics, Explained

In 2025, Mad Cave Studios launched their currently ongoing The Phantom comic book series, which kicked off a whole new adventure and a lethal rivalry for the Ghost Who Walks. As explained by writer Ray Fawkes, "In The Phantom vs. The Singh Brotherhood, we bring The Phantom and Asif Singh into the one-on-one face-off that we've been building to since issue 1 of the series! It’s a story we’re very proud of, one that calls back to the roots of the Phantom Legend and places him firmly in the modern day. We're very excited to bring it to you!"

Artist Russell Olson added, "What excites me most about this story is the exploration of The Phantom's aura of authority outside of his home turf. We've tried to showcase that he’s not a powered hero: he doesn't gain his strength from the jungle. It's his will, prowess, and deep sense of justice that makes him the enduring hero of these past 90 years. There's a reason he’s beloved all over the world, and I'd like to think we've been tapping into this legacy and moving it forward. He's just fantastic, and it's been an honor to work on this book."

The Phantom vs. the Singh Brotherhood #1 from Mad Cave Studios goes on sale on Aug. 19.
