The series is set to take place prior to the events of the original Event Horizon, which took place in the not-so-far-flung future of 2047, Event Horizon: Dark Descent will reveal what really happened to the first crew of the film's titular spacecraft, led by Peter Marinker's Captain John Kilpatrick. Ward said of the series, "It's a huge privilege to be handed the keys of such a beloved film, one I take very seriously and I have some extremely exciting things up my sleeve." Ward went on to promise that "Big gory swings will be happening. You'll never see the film in the same light again."

"I think what Christian's laying out and adding to the lore is going to surprise people," Jones said of things to come in Event Horizon: Dark Descent. "It's certainly given me a lot of gnarly, visceral stuff to chew on visually, which is always fun and knowing that this is being done directly in collaboration with the team behind the film certainly helps lock things in as something fans of the film will want to explore with us."

Black Panther and Hulk Feature Heavily in Marvel's Tease for Imperial #1

Marvel Comics' next great cosmic epic is kicking off with appearances from two of the biggest powerhouses the Avengers have to offer.

Directed by Paul Anderson from a screenplay by Philip Eisner, 1997's Event Horizon starred Laurence Fishburne as Captain S. J. Miller of the Lewis and Clark, a starship sent to respond to a distress signal sent by the former lost Event Horizon. Upon reaching the Event Horizon, Miller and his crew - alongside Doctor William G. Weir, the ship's designer (portrayed by Sam Neill) - investigate the mystery that seemingly claimed the lives of the original crew.

The story quickly unravels into a sprawling bout of mind-bending cosmic horror, one which failed to make any real impact with critics and audiences alike upon Event Horizon's release. Despite the negative reviews and its status as a box office bomb, Event Horizon has maintained its place as a cult classic in the decades since, so much so that the title has seen numerous attempts at further entries in the form of various films and TV shows as recently as 2019.
