The next big crossover between Marvel and DC Comics is pitting the Merc With a Mouth against Gotham City's Dark Knight.
In an exclusive preview from Entertainment Weekly, fans can get their first look at the next Marvel and DC Comics crossover event - Deadpool/Batman and Batman/Deadpool. The first of these two one-shots is slated to go on sale September 17 and will mark the first major crossover between the two titans of the comic book industry since 2003's JLA/Avengers. The story will follow Deadpool after he is hired to pull off a job in Gotham City that will unsurprisingly see him cross paths with the Caped Crusader.

Deadpool/Batman and Batman/Deadpool #1
The issue will be written by Zeb Wells and feature both interior and main cover art by Greg Capullo. Each one-shot will also feature a series of backup stories that will include "exciting Marvel and DC character match-ups," per the series' official description. President and CCO of DC Comics Jim Lee said of the crossover, "It happens kind of once every generation of readers... The timing has to be right in that you don't want to do these too often. You want them to feel special... So you want the story, creatively, to warrant the hype of it all."
Wells also opened up about the crossover and the events leading up to it, recalling, "After writing Amazing Spider-Man for 60 issues, I told Marvel I needed a break. Marvel told me I could do that or I could write a comic starring Deadpool and Batman with the best Batman artist of our generation. I no longer needed a break." Wells added, "It's been a blast letting Deadpool loose in Gotham City and watching what happens."

Batman/Deadpool will be released in November, and will be written by Grant Morrison with art by superstar illustrator Dan Mora. Morrison sang his collaborator's praises when he spoke about the title, saying that there was "No way I could turn down the chance to work with Dan Mora again, one of my all-time favorite artistic collaborators." Morrison went on to tell readers to "Expect 4th wall-busting mayhem, owls, blood, blades, and at least one giant typewriter," from Batman/Deadpool when it arrives. To top things off, this was all followed by confirmation that the upcoming crossover will be just the first of its kind, as another set of one-shots has already been planned for 2026, though no word on what characters will be at the center of them was offered.
