 Nightwatcher #3.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' very own Nightwatcher has just uncovered the horrifying hidden reality of life as a mutant.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Nightwatcher #3 finds Jennika continuing on in her efforts as the eponymous Nightwatcher, this time by hunting down the rogue mutant and unwitting murderer, Eliza Leonetti. As it turns out, Eliza was once a rising executive in her industry, up until she was caught in the mutagen bomb that transformed so many New Yorkers into mutants. Since then, Eliza has not only been pushed to the fringes of a society that once embraced her, she has been cut off from necessary medical care by an insurance industry with no interest in helping customers it could just as easily exploit for profit.

Introduced in the pages of 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #31 by Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, Tom Waltz, and Sophie Campbell, Jennika was originally a Foot Clan assassin who stood firm as one of the Shredder's greatest warriors. Formerly a petty thief, Jennika's time in prison was what drew her into the Foot Clan, where she excelled and found a violent yet accepting home for herself. As it turned out, Jennika's devotion to the Foot Clan was always greater than it was to any individual leader, which left her with a deep-seated disdain for the Shredder and, later, Master Splinter.

During Splinter's time as the leader of the Foot Clan, Jennika came around to his teachings and let go of much of the pain and rage that had previously fueled her. After being grievously wounded in battle, Jennika was given a life-saving blood transfusion donated by the Splinter Clan's own Leonardo, triggering her transformation into a Turtle of her own. Since then, Jennika has become a fast fan-favorite, as well as one of the most capable mutant heroes her world has ever seen.

15 Most Important Battles from IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have seen more than their fair share of violence in the IDW comics, but only a few battles have defined their run.

After the reality-warping battle against the monstrous, time-consuming mutant Megalodon known as Armaggon, the members of the Splinter Clan all went their separate ways to embark upon lives beyond what they had grown accustomed to. For Jennika, this meant staying behind to watch over New York City, where she came into conflict with a living suit of armor that was purportedly terrorizing innocent passerby. Upon uncovering the truth, Jennika only barely escaped with the armor, the consciousness of which had been placed into a hibernation-like state by its previous keeper. Now, Jennika protects the denizens of Mutant Town as the Nightwatcher, giving the city a seemingly original albeit eerily familiar new hero.
