Project Hail Mary proved that a science fiction action movie doesn’t need a superhero to deliver high stakes. Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a middle school science teacher who wakes up aboard a spaceship with no memory of how he got there. He soon learns that Earth faces a deadly crisis, and he’s the only person who can help stop it. Grace’s mission becomes even more dangerous when he meets Rocky, an alien engineer with his own reason to fight for survival. Their partnership gives the movie its strongest emotional pull, while the scientific problems keep the story moving. The result is a space adventure built around pressure, danger and two characters who have little room for failure. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Project Hail Mary became a major success for Amazon MGM Studios.
