Why Flare’s ‘Sgt. Flag’ Crossover Is a Big Indie Event

G-Man Comics has confirmed that Heroic Publishing’s Flare will cross into its shared universe in Sgt. Flag #8. The issue pairs Flare with Sgt. Flag in a rescue mission after Agent Squires is taken by a chupacabra near the San Diego Convention Center. Flare has appeared in Heroic Publishing comics for decades and has led her own series while also working with heroes such as Icicle, Lady Arcane, Liberty Girl, and the League of Champions. In this story, she enters the G-Man Universe for the first time. That gives readers a meeting between two indie superhero lines that have stayed active for many years. G-Man Comics editor-in-chief Rik Offenberger said the crossover was built around a story, not just a guest spot. The publisher has described the issue as a chance for Sgt. Flag and Flare to deal with a problem neither hero would face alone. It is a welcome bit of news for readers who enjoy superhero crossovers that connect smaller comic publishers.
