11,500 Hollywood Workers Sound Alarm over Artificial Intelligence

Hollywood elites like Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Rosario Dawson are the latest to join the growing chorus of actors sounding the alarm over artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential impact on the entertainment industry. Moore, Bacon, and Dawson are among the 11,500 artists who have signed a letter urging the International Federation of Actors (IFA) to take action against AI’s encroachment into the world of acting.

Today we’re publishing a statement on AI training, signed by 10,000+ creators already:

“The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works, and must not be permitted.”

According Breitbart, the letter claims that AI technology is becoming increasingly sophisticated and could soon surpass human actors in the field of performance. The letter also argues that AI-generated content could lead to a loss of livelihood for actors and other creative professionals.

Moore, Bacon, and Dawson are just a few of the many Hollywood celebrities who have expressed concern over AI’s potential impact on the entertainment industry. Last month, a group of 100 actors, directors, and other industry professionals signed a similar letter warning that AI could “replace human actors and creators.” Just last week, actor Nicolas Cage sounded the alarm at the Newport Beach Film Festival, urging up-and-coming actors from giving into pressure from studios opting to use artificial intelligence (AI) to alter or otherwise manipulate their performances.

While the debate surrounding AI’s role in the entertainment industry continues, it’s clear that Hollywood creatives and workers are taking the threat of AI seriously. As the technology continues to advance, it remains to be seen how the entertainment industry will adapt to the growing presence of AI-generated content.
