The acclaimed run of Al Ewing on The Immortal Thor has ended, and now, working with past Thor artist, Pasqual Ferry, he is launching a brand-new era of the MORTAL Thor, as the Asgardian gods have all been erased from existence, and Thor is now just some guy named Siguard Jarlson. When the news was announced, Al Ewing explained, "This was an idea that sprang into being from the original pitch; I wanted to treat Thor as a God, and give him a truly mythological story... but as well as the son of Odin, he's the son of Gaea. So we find ourselves in winter. Thor is dead, and Sigurd Jarlson walks the earth - without power, without fame, without memory. And yet the fate of Asgard and Midgard rests on this mortal man making the journey to return the magic of the Gods to the Earth. And to get there - to even learn the nature of the quest - he's going to have to fight.
In a CBR exclusive preview of The Mortal Thor #1, we look at this new altered reality, and how Thor has been replaced in Marvel's history, and how Sigurd adjusts to his confusing new life. The Mortal Thor #1 is from writer Al Ewing, artist Pasquel Ferry, and colorist Matt Hollingsworth (the letterer was not listed, but Joe Sabino lettered Immortal Thor, so I'm guessing he's doing this one, too).

THE LEGEND BEGINS!
• The Norse Myths tell of Gods who walked the Earth, doing great deeds for the mortals who believed in them. But Asgard isn’t real, and never was.
• The Gods never soared in our skies, never stood with our heroes, never fought for kindness or justice. It was all just a story. Nobody’s coming to help us.
• But somewhere in the city… a man is waking up.
• A man with a hammer.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$4.99
In the preview pages, we see a flashforward to what appears to be the mortal Thor in action with just a regular hammer as his tool. We then go back in time, and see a discussion of gods on television, with confirmation that the new Marvel reality is that the Norse gods were purely mythological, and that Thor's role in Marvel history has been filled by Beta Ray Bill, who is now only assumed to have been INFLUENCED by the fictional Norse myths.
We then see Sigurd Jarlson is his apartment, and he shocks himself with a short in his outlet. He then talks to his neighbor, and we learn that Sigurd has a major block in his memory, and all he knows is his name, the fact that he loves New York City, and the fact that he works with a hammer.
If you want to see where Sigurd goes with this concept, you'll have to pick up The Mortal Thor #1, on sale next week!
