Chamber of Chills v1 #19, 1953 - Many pre-code horror comics reveled in gory images, especially on their covers. In this case, artist
chose a more subtle, sophisticated approach. A skeletal hand raises a snifter glass, raising a reflection of the woman in the background. Is it her true self? Or a premonition of something to come? It almost doesn't matter, because the concept is clever enough to endure to this day. Other artists in this issue include Bob Powell, Howard Nostrand, Joe Certa and Jack Sparling. /// select Elias cover
