Spider-Man leaps into action Image via Marvel

Recently, Marvel announced that Amazing Spider-Man #11 would be kicking off a dynamic new era in the history of the wallcrawler when Spider-Man is suddenly split into TWO Spider-Men, one of whom will be going on a dramatic cosmic adventure, while the other Spider-Man will be tackling Earthbound dilemmas (and Amazing Spider-Man's two main artists, Pepe Larraz and John Romita Jr., will be each be taking on one of the two Spider-Men, with Larraz introducing a new cosmic-themed costume for Spidey in the process).

Now, Marvel has announced that that issue will also be kicking off a 25-issue countdown to Amazing Spider-Man #1000 (which will be the 36th issue of this current volume), which will be marked by superstar artist Lee Bermejo doing 25 variant covers, from Amazing Spider-Man #11-36 (legacy numbers #975-1000), marking notable moments in Spider-Man's history.

Spider-Man Begins a Brand New, and Very Cosmic, Marvel Adventure

Spider-Man will be going on a bold, cosmic adventure in September's Amazing Spider-Man issues, but this adventure includes a major twist!

What are the first few moments on the variant cover countdowns?

Amazing Spider-Man editor Nick Lowe explained the project in a Marvel press release, “There are rare artists who can take something we’ve seen a million times and somehow make it seem revolutionary. Lee Bermejo is one of those artists. We’ve been looking for ways to celebrate the lead-up to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1000, and having Lee Bermejo take on 25 of the most important moments in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN history seemed like a heck of a way to do so!”

The first three covers featured for Amazing Spider-Man #11-13 shows a general introduction cover, followed by Spider-Man's first fight against Doctor Octopus and his first fight against the Lizard.

Marvel will have Spider-Man and Black Panther cross paths with an unlikely mystical force in 2025.

What did Lee Bermejo have to say about the project?

In the Marvel press release, Bermejo explained how his hyper-realistic artwork was inspired by his childhood fandom, "Even as a kid, I could never detach some sense of realism from the way I thought of Spider-Man. I always wanted to know how his web shooters worked and why you could never see the line where the mask attached to the costume while still totally being able to lose myself in the fantasy of a teenager bitten by a radioactive spider who would walk up walls and lift cars.

He added, "My artistic vision has always been to interpret Spidey in a grounded way without losing the spectacle and sense of 'amazing fantasy'. I'm beyond thrilled to be able to show readers important moments of his history through my lens leading up to the landmark issue #1000 of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, while still respecting the important legacy that so many creators I love contributed to through the years.”

Bermejo's first Amazing Visions variant cover will be released on September 3rd. The next two will be released on September 17 and Octoebr 1st.
