Absolute Catwoman Just Brought Debuted Absolute Huntress and Absolute The Question

Following her debut in Absolute Batman, Absolute Catwoman has become the star of her own title. Not only has it served as an exciting adventure following this universe's Selina Kyle, but it has also introduced new iterations of a few fan-favorite DC characters.

For instance, the very first issue saw the debut of Absolute Cassandra Cain, but the second coming of the second Batgirl turned out to be just the beginning. The latest issue of Absolute Catwoman brings a pair of beloved vigilantes into the mix.

Absolute Catwoman #2 Introduces Huntress And The Question

Absolute Catwoman #2 sees the eponymous hero cross paths with a pair of women named Helena Bertinelli and Victoria Sage. DC fans should recognize those names as a vigilante named Huntress and a gender-swapped reinterpretation of detective Vic Sage, better known as The Question.

The trio is reunited when Selina's old friend, Holly, is kidnapped by a group of criminals led by Absolute Cassandra Cain. She tries to lure out her abductors by auctioning off an orb connected to a powerful AI system called the Yarn, which, instead, attracts the attention of two other former acquaintances of Selina's, Helena and Victoria.

Helena's origin is similar to that of the Huntress from DC's main timeline, who takes up vigilantism as revenge on her family, who were involved in organized crime. Absolute Huntress had the same motivation for becoming a member of the Calicos, who were a Robin Hood-esque team of thieves, consisting of Selina, Helena, Victoria, and Holly.

It should already be pretty clear just how different Victoria Sage is from the original version of The Question, who actually would be succeeded by a woman, namely Renee Montoya, in the main universe. Instead of a faceless, highly-skilled investigator with a penchant for conspiracy theorism, this "Vic" is a tech-savvy criminal.

Absolute Birds Of Prey Is On The Rise

The union of Absolute Catwoman with Absolute Huntress and Absolute Question seems to bring the debut of a popular DC Comics team in the Absolute Universe. In the main timeline, Selina Kyle, Helena Bertinelli, and Renee Montoya have been members of the Birds of Prey.

While not officially acknowledged as said collective of female heroes in Absolute Catwoman #2, the partnership of these characters in this universe is a huge deal. In fact, it would actually count as the first major iteration of a popular DC Comics team in the Absolute Universe, unless one counts the supervillain collective that has dubbed itself the Absolute Justice League.

Created by writer Chuck Dixon, editor Jordan B. Gorfinkel, and artist Gary Frank, the Birds of Prey made their DC Comics debut in 1996, originating as a partnership between Black Canary and Barbara "Oracle" Gordon before expanding its roster with the likes of Power Girl and Katana, and even more notorious figures like Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. The team has been adapted for television in a short-lived WB original series and in the 2020 DC Extended Universe feature Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Huntress was originally created by Joey Cavalieri and Joe Staton and first emerged in her own self-titled series in 1989. The original iteration of The Question, created by Steve Ditko, first appeared in Blue Beetle #1 in 1967.

Absolute Catwoman is a six-issue limited series co-written by Che Grayson and Absolute Universe overseer Scott Snyder. Artwork is provided by renowned penciler Bengal and colorist Giovanna Niro.
