Growing up in rural Iowa as a reluctant reader, it all changed when he started reading the original Fantastic Four by Lee/Kirby. Now Austin can't stop reading. He has written about comics for Comic Book Yeti and he has also written tons of indie comics, best known for Big Guns Stupid Rednecks.
Recently, Adventure Time has returned to the comic book realm through several limited series through publisher Oni Press. Another new comic has been announced, and it's Adventure Time Halloween Special.
Adventure Time Halloween Special hits shelves this September, just in time for Halloween. It is by the creative team of writer Jeremy Melloul (Dungeon Masters Guild) and artist Adam Seats (The Great Knight Salamander). This single-issue story sees Jake and Finn have to fight their way through a dungeon.
The official solicitation from Oni Press shares a bit more about Adventure Times' comeback: "BOO… FROM THE LAND OF OOO! ADVENTURE TIME’S FIRST-EVER HALLOWEEN SPECIAL IS HERE! From writer Jeremy Melloul (Dungeon Masters Guild) and rising star Adam Seats, noble heroes Finn and Jake enter their trickiest situation yet in this SPOOKY-SIZED 48-PAGE special that’s definitely a treat! After signing up for a quest from the Adventurer’s Guild without reading the fine print, Finn and Jake find themselves in a new dungeon — turning into some of its monstrous inhabitants! Stuck in strange bodies, fighting familiar faces, and attempting to get to the bottom of this mysterious place, can our dynamic duo best this unearthly dungeon, or will they fall victim to the monsters within… and within themselves?"
No Time to Trick or Treat For Finn and Jake
Adventure Time Halloween Special features covers by artists Sean Dove, Agustin Morales, Violet Tobacco, and Adam Seats. Even though the television series wrapped years ago, there are still stories to be told in the world and with the characters of Adventure Time. Hundreds of Adventure Time comics have been published with characters originally from BOOM! Studios, but they are now being published by Oni Press as of 2025.
The cast of Adventure Time is perfect for stories within the horror realm. The cast is full of monsters, swords, sorcery, and talking animals. Despite being marketed towards children, the show did feature several darker storylines.
The Adventure Time comics have been able to dive into some truly crazy concepts that it wouldn't have been able to while airing on Cartoon Network. For example, they had a comic book crossover with the characters of Regular Show and have been able to do stories around more minor characters.
Recently, Oni Press released Adventure Time: Quadruple Feature. This series by writer Mariko Tamaki and artist Brenda Hickey followed Jake, Marceline, BMO, and Lumpy Space Princess going to the movies. Each character got their own issue trying to pitch the movie they wanted to see to the others.
Besides the main title and the limited series, Oni Press has been publishing several single-issue specials. It recently published The Bubbline College Special and Pride Special: PB & Marcy's Infinite Mixtape. The new publishing partnership with Oni Press is seeing the comic fire off in several different directions. The main title follows Jake the Dog and Finn the Human's adventures right where they left off at the end of the cartoon series.
Adventure Time Halloween Special is available on Sept. 30 wherever comic books are sold.
