Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

One of the most gifted and acclaimed comic book artists working in the industry today is Lee Bermejo. The key to his esteem is his astonishingly realistic designs of beloved heroes and villains, especially in his work in cover art.

Bermejo has most recently and quite effectively applied this winning approach when illustrating variant covers for Amazing Spider-Man. CBR is proud to exclusively announce that fans will be able to find all of these designs in a single upcoming collection.

Amazing Spider-Man: Amazing Visions #1 Collects Lee Bermejo's Variant Covers

This fall, Marvel Comics is coming out with Amazing Spider-Man: Amazing Visions #1. This one-shot brings together all 25 of the variant covers that Lee Bermejo has drawn for said comic book series leading up to the highly anticipated release of Amazing Spider-Man #1000 together.

The designs recreate key moments in Spider-Man's legacy in the artist's signature, one-of-a-kind style. The images cover the origins of Peter Parker's superhero journey when he first learned a tragic lesson that "with great power, there must also come great responsibility," his relationships with Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson, his struggles with his black, symbiote-infected suit, and plenty more iconic memories of lore.

Handling writing duties on Amazing Spider-Man: Amazing Visions #1 is Jess Harrold, who has authored many art books for Marvel, including the upcoming Aug. 18 release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art Of The Movie, which celebrates the visual design for the latest MCU installment starring Tom Holland. The British writer and Oxford University graduate is also known as the Legal & Professional Editor for the Estates Gazette in London.

Amazing Spider-Man: Amazing Visions #1 does more than just serve as a compendium of Lee Bermejo's variant covers celebrating the landmark release of Amazing Spider-Man #1000 and the webslinger's 64-year legacy. It goes deep into exploring the artist's creative process for the run.

A quote from Bermejo explains that his approach to creating highly realistic depictions of comic book characters like Spider-Man comes from his own need to be able to believe that such a hero could really exist.

"I think it boils down to this with me and Spider-Man: Even at ten years old, I could totally buy into a teenager who could climb walls and throw a car but yet not being able to see his webshooters protruding from underneath his gloves or the line where his mask connected to his shirt drove my little obsessive compulsive mind crazy.

What makes Spidey tick for me visually is inserting him into a realistic world with some of those aesthetic trappings, but never losing the high fantasy, drama, action, and magic that made me fall in love with those beautiful comics I read throughout the years. This cover run was all about honoring the AMAZING history and legacy of the character with the artistic VISION of a kid who wanted to believe that even radioactive spider-bitten super heroes with great power couldn't possibly stitch together perfectly symmetrical webbing on their homemade costume."

Bermejo has received several accolades for his art, including three Eisner Award nominations (namely for Best Short Story for Rule Number One in 2015 and, in 2023, Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Interior Art) and Best Single Issue/One-Shot for A Vicious Circle Book 1). He has also lent his unique talents to DC, including his esteemed collaborations with writer Brian Azzarello on the Vertigo release of 100 Bullets and their grim, Gotham-set graphic novel, Joker, from 2008.

“Lee is one of those generational talents,” Spider-Editor Nick Lowe said. “His interpretation of characters and situations always hit like a ton of bricks, so the idea of him interpreting some of Spidey’s biggest moments in Amazing Spider-Man was a no-brainer."

Due on Sept. 16, Amazing Spider-Man #1000 is a one-shot poised to be one of the webslinger's biggest issues ever. It brings several industry legends, such as Frank Miller and Brian Michael Bendis, and even newcomers, like Emmy-winning TV producer Noah Hawley, together to put their own spin on one of Marvel's most celebrated superheroes.

Amazing Spider-Man: Amazing Visions #1 hits the shelves on Oct. 14, 2026.
