The following contains major spoilers for Avengers #23, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

A classic Marvel Villain just paid the perfect price for Black Cat to betray Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Avengers #23 finds the eponymous team in the midst of pulling off what could very well be the greatest heist the entire Marvel Universe has ever seen. Or rather, it would if Felicia Hardy, aka the Black Cat, and Kang the Conqueror hadn't beaten them to it. Of course, Felicia's services didn't come without a price, let alone one that any other person could offer. As it turns out, the price for the Black Cat's help was a chance to not just reunite with her father, but to join him for the biggest job in the history of the Eighth Cosmos.

Introduced in the pages of 1979's Amazing Spider-Man #194 by Marv Wolfman and Keith Pollard, Felicia Hardy followed in her father's footsteps as an impossibly capable thief. With her father imprisoned and the truth kept secret by her mother, Felicia was trained by Walter Hardy's former mentor, the Black Fox. By the time Felicia was able to catch up with her father and begin reconciling the past, he was already in the final moments of his life due to a terminal illness he had been in the throes of for months.

While the Black Cat has often been at the center of numerous storylines as an overtly heroic figure, that doesn't mean she ever left behind her chosen life of pulling of daring, occasionally explosive robberies. Over the course of nearly fifty years, Felicia has both fought alongside and been at odds with everyone from Earth's Mightiest Heroes to her long-time romantic interest - Spider-Man. Felicia has also struck up some particularly unexpected friendships with characters who she might otherwise consider outright rivals, most prominently Peter Parker's other great love, Mary Jane Watson.

An X-Men Icon Has a Horrifying New Secret Admirer

One of the X-Men's deadliest telepaths has finally uncovered her secret admirer, and he might be the most horrifying villain she has ever faced.

Felicia joining forces with Kang the Conqueror comes as a part of the latter's own long-running efforts to uncover the Missing Moment. This singular point in time has apparently been denied to Kang and most others who seek it because of its status as a Tribulation Event. These fabled moments, in explanations given by ancient alien scholars, are meant to be "met by heroes," which seemingly precludes Kang from ever finding the Missing Moment for himself. This may not be the case for long, however, as Kang's efforts have been disrupted by the malevolent Myrrdin and his band of futuristic Knights, whose place in this slowly-unraveling epic could very lift Kang from the depths of his own villainy for just long enough to glimpse the Missing Moment.
