This is a Decimation series about Valerie Cooper’s new Sentinel squad. It shows her proving the worth of the robots and recruiting James Rhodes to lead a field team that will operate the Sentinels from inside their robotic heads.
The main story has the team on a mission in the Savage Land where one of the squad members, Lex Lexington (yes, that’s his full name) is revealed as a mutant with powers during a fight with Growing Man.
The operators are a mix of mutants and humans. Lex and Meld (who debuts here) are two of the mutants, but that doesn’t mean they’re buddies.
The Savage Land mission is weird. Brainchild, Barbarus and Amphibius are taking over Savage Land and mind-controlling dinosaurs. It’s also not very interesting or good. Predictably, there is government corruption as a substitute for real plotting or character work, and the whole thing ends in five issues—which is about three issues too many.
