MARVEL RIVALS Season 2 Is About to Change Everything – and I’m All In

22 hours ago 3

Marvel Rivals has quickly become a global sensation, boasting an average of 135,602 players over the past month and drawing in more than 67,000 average viewers on Twitch. With over 6 million hours streamed this year alone, it’s no surprise that today’s Season 2: Hellfire Gala announcement has already surpassed 773,000 views—and counting. Launching April 11, the new season will bring Emma Frost and Ultron into the playable roster, along with new maps, special events, and a variety of Team-Up adjustments

This season will roll out in two phases over three months: Emma Frost will arrive in the first half, while Ultron makes his debut in the second. Both characters offer unique playstyles—Emma leads the charge as a Vanguard class hero, seamlessly shifting between telepathy and her diamond form to defend allies and dismantle enemies.

Now the story picks up after the Eternal Night Arc and with Dracula defeated, Emma Frost hosts the Grand Hellfire The storyline picks up after the conclusion of the Eternal Night arc. With Dracula defeated, Emma Frost hosts the grand Hellfire Gala on Krakoa. But peace is short-lived, as Ultron crashes the festivities with dangerous plans of his own, forcing the heroes back into action.

Players will have the chance to explore the new Hellfire Gala map, filled with lush visuals and celebratory flair. It’s safe to say fans of Hickman’s game changing X-Men run as well as Marvel Rivals fanatics are going to have much to look forward to. This will include new teams ups as well as tweaks to existing ones, for example getting rid of “Metallic Chaos” and “Voltaic Union” and even removing certain heroes from other teams. Marvel and NetEase are instead focusing on the cooperative strategy at the heart of Marvel Rivals and updating certain heroes fans have considered too weak or too strong. It also addresses the ongoing issue of not being able to unlock everything from the battle pass, something fans have been wanting for a long time. To fix this NetEase is introducing weekly missions to help bridge the gap and make full completion more achievable. Veterans of arena shooters will recognize that season two is often when the biggest changes hit—so it’s no surprise that there’s plenty more being implemented.

MARVEL RIVALS SEASON TWO ANALYSIS

As a Marvel Rivals Player, I have to say that the changes are a welcome sight. NetEase continues to add new heroes and maps trying to keep their old player base in and wanting newcomers to try out the game. It’s refreshing to have a developer continuously strive to make things better for the fanbase.

But something I have to comment on was the removal of Dr. Strange from “Gamma Charge” which got major points from me. If you’ve been on the giving/receiving end of that team up it can be devastating, so to switch him out with Namor, a hero fans have been saying is underutilized, is actually crazy. NetEase is even going as far as to debuff Strange’s offensive power while Strange has been a staple meta choice since the games initialization.

Then you have buffs to Mister Fantastic and Moon Knight who apart from their ultimates had felt like to some was just a supportive DPS, which not a thing in the game. THey are also taking the time to fix many heroes who have been struggling like Jeff the Shark, Scarlett Witch, Peni Parker, Mr.Fantastic, Black Widow, and Rocket Raccoon to hopefully bring some more balance to the game. Most importantly they are raising the minimum level requirement of competitive from Level 10 to 15, stating that it is in order to give players some time to master the basics.

This to me, is one of the best things to come out of that Dev announcement because with how ranking works at this point you have to work your way up from bronze and frankly I believe I speak for everyone that when I say that you can tell the competitive level gap is frighteningly apparent, making the competitive grind feel more like a chore than a heart pounding fight to the top. There’s even more changes so make sure to check out all the details in Dev Vision Vol.05!

Looking ahead, the game’s seasonal format will shift starting in Season 3, moving to a shorter two-month cycle with a new hero released each month and more details will follow as that update approaches.

The Marvel Rivals community continues to explode in popularity, with over 4 million members on Discord and more than 40 million players worldwide. The game quickly became a top-seller on Steam following its December 6 launch, pulling in 10 million players within the first 72 hours. Players can catch the full Season 2 update, including patch notes and hero balance changes, through the latest in-game update or community channels like the official Discord so make sure to follow for more!
