One of Marvel's most underrated Avengers is about to take on the villainous creator of the Ultimate Universe. A new one-shot comic sees the new Hawkeye going on a covert mission to thwart The Maker.

Hawkeye made their debut in the Ultimate Universe in last year's Ultimates story, with the character of Charli Ramsey joining forces with Captain America and taking on Hawkeye's mantle. Ultimate Hawkeye #1 will continue Charli's journey in a starring role as they go on a dangerous mission to take out the Maker single-handedly, and Marvel is teasing that the events that unfold will have a long-lasting impact on the Ultimate Universe as a whole.

Marvel Reveals New Details About Ultimate Hawkeye's Origins

Ultimate Hawkeye #1 is written by Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas and B. Earl, the writing duo behind Daredevil & Echo and Werewolf by Night. Marvel's summary of the one-shot story reveals how it will further explore the new Hawkeye's origins. "Before being recruited to the Ultimates by Captain America, Charli Ramsey was a vigilante, defending their people from Roxxon’s exploitation. Now, in an adventure that reveals more of Ultimate Hawkeye's history, the expert archer breaks away from the team to embark on a covert operation to thwart the Maker’s plans, a mission that will have a massive impact on the future of the Ultimate Universe!"

“These are some trying times. We are living in an era of chaos and uncertainty, it's an honor to bring Good Medicine with this Ultimate Hawkeye one-shot!" Taboo said in Marvel's press release for the story. "Getting a chance to write another book for Marvel is a way for me to channel my creativity and bring positivity and great action-packed storytelling to the world. And this book will be dedicated to my Indigenous relative Jeffrey Veregge."

Writer B. Earl also spoke about working on the new story, while teasing some surprising additions. "The Ultimates line has always been a favorite since it gives an opportunity for new readers to join the Marvel journey and discover characters they might not otherwise have found," B. Earl said. "In writing this fresh take on Hawkeye, I’m personally excited to explore a superhero who has the potential to be drawn into the dark while struggling to stay in the light. With this new story we’ve got one hell of a ride filled with action, adventure, betrayal, and mystery... and, of course, some brand new characters who’ll join the party!"

Marvel previously shared that Ultimate Hawkeye #1 will also have a special framing story by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri (Ultimates) that helps to position the one-shot in the larger Ultimates narrative. Elsewhere in its lineup of Ultimate titles, September will also see more action for T'Challa in Ultimate Black Panther, while the Sinister Six implodes in Ultimate Spider-Man. The line's newly launched and first-ever event series, Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion, will also see Miles Morales taking on Magik, Colossus and Omega Red.
