The following contains spoilers for Giant-Size X-Men #1, on sale May 28 from Marvel Comics.

Ms. Marvel is revisiting one of the most iconic eras in X-Men history, and Marvel's premier mutant heroes have no idea she's coming.

In a preview for the upcoming Giant-Size X-Men #1 from Marvel Comics, readers can see Kamala Khan, better known as Ms. Marvel, opening up about all the recent shakeups in her life to her longtime friend Bruno Carrelli. While Kamala has been busy fighting against the likes of Mojo, Bruno has been toiling away in his lab, developing some truly astonishing new tech. Unfortunately, his latest device is only capable of detecting incoming bouts of unexpected time travel, not preventing them, which means Bruno and Kamala can only watch on in astonishment as she is ripped through time and dropped right in the middle of the Xavier Institute decades before her relative present.

Bruno Carrelli has been a part of Kamala Khan's story since before she embarked upon her career as Ms. Marvel. First seen in the pages of 2014's All-New Marvel NOW! Point One #1.NOW in G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona's story, "Garden State of Mind," Bruno and Kamala have been friends since they were both young children. A genius whose troubled home life saw him removed from his mother's care and placed in that of his already struggling grandparents, Kamala has always done whatever she can to help make Bruno's life easier. In turn, Bruno has supported Kamala in her efforts as Ms. Marvel, namely by developing the special shape-changing bio-kinetic polymer suit she wears in her heroic endeavors.

Although Ms. Marvel wasn't prepared for the trip through time she is taking in Giant-Size X-Men #1, it won't be her first time dealing with such misadventures, nor her first time crossing paths with Cyclops under similar circumstances. Previously, Ms. Marvel served as the leader of the Champions, whose members included a then time-displaced younger version of Scott Summers, who served dutifully with the team for quite a while. Even after being returned to his respective present and going on to grow up, Cyclops maintained his connection to the Champions and, subsequently, his tight-knit friendship with Kamala Khan herself.

Since their debut in 1963, Marvel's X-Men have been more than just another superhero team. While the team really hit its stride as the All New, All Different X-Men in 1975, Marvel's heroic mutants have always operated as super-outcasts, protecting a world that hates and fears them for their powers.

Key members of the X-Men include Professor X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, Beast, Rogue, and Storm. Often framed as the world's second strongest superheroes, after the Avengers, they are nonetheless one of Marvel's most popular and important franchises.
