Anime distributor AnimEigo announced at its Anime NYC panel that it has acquired the home media license for A Time Slip of 10,000 Years: Prime Rose. The fantasy adventure film, based on a manga by legendary creator Osamu Tezuka, will receive an HD Blu-ray release in 2026. AnimEigo and its parent company, MediaOCD, secured the license from SkySet Entertainment.

Often hailed as the “Godfather of Manga,” Osamu Tezuka transformed the world of anime and manga with more than 700 manga works and 500 anime episodes, including such groundbreaking titles as Astro Boy, Princess Knight, and Kimba the White Lion.
Originally broadcast as part of the Japanese charity program 24-Hour Television: Love Saves the Earth, A Time Slip of 10,000 Years: Prime Rose tells the story of a powerful being known as Death Mask, who hurls Kujukuri City, Japan, and Dallas, Texas, 10,000 years into the future. Amid the chaos of this dystopian new world, Gai Tanbara rises against Death Mask’s tyranny, joining forces with the fierce warrior Emiya Tachi (Prime Rose) to battle the sinister forces threatening humanity.
The Prime Rose manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion from 1982 to 1983. Since the manga had not concluded when the anime project began, the feature-length film introduced an original storyline. Despite requests from readers for more “fan service,” Tezuka remained faithful to his vision of Prime Rose as a strong, adventurous heroine. The character went on to become a recurring figure in Tezuka’s wider universe, even appearing in Astro Boy: Omega Factor.
With its upcoming Blu-ray release, AnimEigo aims to reintroduce A Time Slip of 10,000 Years: Prime Rose to both long-time Tezuka fans and a new generation of anime viewers.
