Gauntlet is beaten nearly to death by a mysterious assailant, and the initials “NW” are smeared across his chest in his own blood.
The Initiative then arrest known members and affiliates of the New Warriors and Henry Peter Gyrich questions them. Each has a story to tell about Gauntlet.
Basically, this is a device to have us get to see Gauntlet through the eyes of other characters. Adding a layer to this is the fact that MVP died in a training incident a few issues ago, and Hank Pym wants everyone to keep quiet about it because he and Baron Blitzshlag are experimenting on the body.
In the end, the investigation doesn’t figure out who beat up Gauntlet, but we the readers are shown that Slapstick did it because Gauntlet made fun of his former New Warriors teammates.
