The Comics Beat team had the chance to attend the Let’s Play anime premiere at Anime Expo 2025, held in the JW Marriott Platinum Ballroom on July 3.
Fans were treated to a new trailer for the anime adaptation, offering a glimpse at animated versions of Charles Jones, Link Hudson, and Marshall Law. Kana Hanazawa voices the main character Sam Young, bringing a familiar voice-acting pedigree to the project.
The anime is being produced by OLM (Pokémon, Komi Can’t Communicate), with Daiki Tomiyasu directing and Ebima handling character design. Tomiyasu was in attendance at the panel and noted that in working on Let’s Play, he learned “American culture is about more than muscles.”
Joining him were producers Heather Horn, Hana Sugawara, and Minaka Sakamoto. It was especially exciting to see a team that included three women producers helming the adaptation.
Creator Leanne M. Krecic, also known as Mongie, also made an appearance, expressing that seeing her webcomic become an anime is “a wish come true.”
Originally launched on WEBTOON in 2016, Let’s Play became a fan-favorite romantic comedy about video games, memes, and mental health. While Krecic ended updates on WEBTOON in 2022 after Season 3, she confirmed that Let’s Play Season 4 will return in Fall 2025—though the platform has yet to be announced. In the meantime, Rocketship Entertainment is publishing the comic in print, with Volume 4 released earlier this month.
Rocketship describes the series as:
She’s young, single, and about to achieve her dream of creating incredible video games. But then life throws her a one-two punch: a popular streamer gives her first game a scathing review.
Even worse, she finds out that same troublesome critic is now her new neighbor! A funny, sexy, and all-too-real story about gaming, memes, and social anxiety.
