BOOM! Studios titles are officially set to be removed from many digital library platforms at the end of this month. The change follows Penguin Random House's acquisition of the publisher last year, and libraries are already warning readers of the upcoming changes.
Bleeding Cool reports that Boom! Studio comics will be pulled from library digital platforms that use Comics Plus after May 30, 2025. The changes come as a result of Penguin Random House's limitations on digital book distribution by libraries, and it will completely cut off access to the comic publisher's titles as a result. Many libraries offer comics to their patrons via Comics Plus, which is powered by Library Pass and includes thousands of digital comics and manga without holds, wait lists or monthly borrowing limits.

Comics Plus Confirms Loss of BOOM! Studios Catalog

A statement from Comics Plus recently confirmed the sad news for fans of BOOM! Studios titles. Comics Plus confirmed that, while losing access to BOOM!'s catalog was disappointing, they will continue to support other independent publishers that are more "library-friendly," including Dark Horse, Dynamite, Image Comics, Mad Cave, Oni Press, Tokyopop and Yen Press.
Last summer, Penguin Random House (PRH) acquired BOOM! Studios, which is now part of the Random House Worlds portfolio of imprints at The Random House Publishing Group. Unfortunately, PRH doesn’t support the unlimited access nor engagement models that Comics Plus requires to serve our library and school customers.
To comply with PRH’s ebook policy, we will be deactivating all BOOM! titles in all Comics Plus customer accounts on May 30, 2025.
Libraries around the world, including the City of Parramatta Libraries in Australia, are already letting readers know that many beloved BOOM! Studios titles will be leaving their digital collections soon and explaining that the change is due to Penguin Random House.
Boom! Studios comics will be removed from the ComicsPlus collections, for both adults and kids, on 30 May 2025. Boom! Studios was acquired by Penguin Random House, which limits content libraries can offer to our members, and are taking away their entire collections.
The comics in the Boom! Studios collection include Dune: House Atreides, Planet of the Apes, Artesia, Firefly, Garfield, Lumberjanes, Bee and Puppycat, and many others for all ages. Read them quickly, or miss out!

BOOM!'s physical comic books are expected to still be available in libraries, with the change only set to impact digital delivery of the titles. Those interested in reading BOOM!'s series at their local library will now have to check out the books in person, potentially waiting for a copy to be available.
BOOM! Studios titles will officially leave the Comics Plus platform and its corresponding libraries on May 30, 2025.
