Susan Olsen, who portrayed Cindy Brady in the famous 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch, has revealed that a “woke” relaunch of the famed series was scrapped due to her political conservatism.
Olsen revealed on the #WalkAway Campaign podcast this week that the re-boot idea emerged after the group reassembled for the 2019 HGTV series, A Very Brady Renovation. The HGTV series, which centered on giving a house a makeover to replicate the 1970s TV series Brady Home, drew 28 million viewers and was the network’s most-watched debut ever.
The popularity of the HGTV series prompted producers to begin developing a revival TV series with a range of “diverse” ideas.
How Wokeness Killed The Brady Bunch Reboot: An Exclusive Interview w/Susan Olsen (Parts 1 & 2)
Politically conservative Olsen stated that her Cindy Brady character was to be portrayed as a podcaster in the libertarian vein. Eve Plumb’s character, Jan Brady, would be a vocal liberal with a transsexual child. And if that wasn’t “diverse” enough, one of the Brady women would be wedding a black man on the new show.
According to the “Cindy Brady” actress, this would make the show varied, much like the Roseanne series, “her reboot had a family with completely different political opinions and in the end they all love and respect each other,” she said of Barr’s show. Rosanne Barr was famously fired from her show on ABC for a tasteless joke that was taken the wrong way.
However, Olsen says that when producers learned that she had been sacked from a radio station in 2016 for launching into what they called a “homophobic rant,” the development completely fell apart. In a last ditch effort to get approval for the revival Brady program, she even consented to enroll in a political correctness course.
As a vocal conservative, Olsen’s social media also displays criticism of COVID immunizations, as well as mask mandates, giving producers more than enough reasons to cancel the entire Brady reboot attempt.
“I can’t play a role that I’ve played for more than fifty years because I’m too dangerous now.” Olsen told the podcast host Brandon Straka.
Olsen also added that the cancellation has hurt her relationship with Eve Plumb who played “Jan Brady,” saying, “I think she feels betrayed,” and added that Plumb believes Olsen’s support of Donald Trump is supporting “evil.”
I think fans of the original series, which was funny, wholesome, and beloved by generations, should be thankful this reunion show got cancelled. The world doesn’t need a “woke” Brady show.
