The Superman community and the wider world of cinema are grieving the loss of legendary British actor Terence Stamp, who passed away on the morning of August 17, 2025, at the age of 87, his family confirmed in a statement.

Stamp's name became synonymous with one of the most memorable villains in superhero history - General Zod. His portrayal in "Superman The Movie" (1978) and "Superman II" (1980) left an indelible mark on popular culture, elevating the character into one of the most enduring adversaries the Man of Steel has ever faced. With his commanding presence and chilling delivery, Stamp transformed Zod into a cultural icon. His famous line, "Kneel before Zod!" remains one of the most quoted in the Superman mythos and continues to resonate with fans decades later.

While General Zod defined Stamp for millions around the globe, his career extended far beyond the world of Krypton. He earned an Academy Award nomination for his debut in "Billy Budd" (1962) and went on to deliver acclaimed performances in films such as "Theorem" (1968), "Far From the Madding Crowd" (1967), and "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" (1994), where he won praise for his portrayal of Bernadette. Later, he continued to captivate audiences in films like "Valkyrie" (2008) and "The Adjustment Bureau" (2011).

Born in London's East End in 1938, Stamp rose from wartime hardships to become one of Britain's most celebrated actors. Beyond his film work, he authored memoirs, fiction, and a cookbook, further showcasing his creativity and versatility.

In a statement, his family reflected on his extraordinary life and career stating, "He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come."

The Superman Super Site extends its deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to Stamp's family and loved ones during this difficult time of mourning. His legacy will forever live on through his unforgettable portrayal of General Zod and the indelible mark he left on the world of film.
