‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Going Back for More Reshoots

2 weeks ago 4

Captain America: Brave New World has been in the news lately, but for all the wrong reasons. The heavily hyped MCU film, starring Anthony Mackie as the “Star Spangled Avenger,” has been plagued with delays and extensive reshoots. Now, it seems the troubles are far from over.

Giancarlo Esposito, one of the stars in the movie, has just revealed that he will be heading back for more reshoots next week. This news comes as a surprise, but given the drama that has surrounded this film, it’s not entirely unexpected.

Giancarlo Esposito himself confirmed this at a recent event:

“The Captain America story, as much as it’s been great to be on set to shoot it, I’m actually going back next week to do a little more.”

Originally set for release in July 2024, “Brave New World” has faced multiple delays and reshoots. The film was rescheduled for February 14, 2025, but now it seems that the production team is still not done yet. Last year, after receiving negative test scores and an underwhelming response from Marvel executives to an early cut of the film, extensive reshoots were ordered. Three major action sequences were filmed between May and August 2024 in Atlanta.

In December 2023, Matthew Orton was hired by Marvel to write additional scenes and material. Orton’s work was incorporated during the summer reshoots, and new characters were added to the story. Two different cuts of the film test-screened last month, and plot details for one of the cuts leaked online. Those who attended the screenings were split into two different theaters, given either a red or green bracelet. The reactions have been less than favorable, with the movie being described as “inessential” and “flat.”

Swapping out super soldier Steve Rogers with a non-superpowered Sam Wilson, but keeping the “Captain America” moniker was also a risky decision. Although Marvel Comics eventually swapped Rogers with Wilson, it was after 72 years of the original hero, appearing in more than ten thousand stories and over five thousand media formats,. The MCU has attempted to do the same in less than a decade and after only 7 films, leading to the underwhelming Disney+ series, The Falcon and Winter Soldier.

With Chris Evans no longer playing Captain America, the question remains: will audiences show up for a movie without their beloved hero? “Brave New World” stars Anthony Mackie, Liv Tyler, Harrison Ford, Shira Haas, and Tim Blake Nelson, and is set to be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
