Goal: $7,500
End Date: April 20
Goodies: Get the digital copy for $10, the the physical copy for $25, randomized drawings from both Jas Hice and Cam del Rosario for $75, or at $125 get an original page for $125, and more!
Butter is a new themed comix magazine brought to you by the eyes of curators Jas Hice and Cam del Rosario
To me, Zines are the forefront of indie comic creation; anybody can make them, and the only limit is your creativity. I think that’s why I’m so obsessed with watching this devil kickflip over a city skyline. Butter is a comic magazine that highlights hardworking talent from all over the world while focusing on a specific theme. The premise seemed interesting, and then to know it focused on urban legends, I was hooked. The art is probably the best part, it either looks straight out of a sketchbook, like a dream, a comic you would rip off a stand, and more. I can’t help but think that it’s genuinely a crime that this has only three days to go and hasn’t reached its goal, and I want to believe that’s where The Beat steps in. Make sure to check out this campaign, you won’t regret it.
Life on Paws
Creators: Sina Grace (Writer/Artist)
Goal: $5,000
End Date: May 9
Goodies: The issue digital copy is $10, the physical copy is $20, and the deluxe goodies for $45!
A comic about love and pet grief
Sina Grace is a USA Today bestselling author and artist who has been in the comic industry for over 15 years. Now their newest project focuses on one of the purest forms of love: grief. This whole book was a way for Grace to process their love for their dog that they lost in 2023, and instead of wallowing in that sadness, they chose to turn to art and use those emotions to help heal others in the same situation. I think that’s why knowing that this project has earned more than double its goal, and we are right there alongside the project, watching its growth. It’s an interesting one for sure, and it’s for that reason that I can’t help but recommend it for this roundup.
Unicorn: Vampire Hunter #1-8: Fantasy Adventure Comic Book
Creators: Caleb Palmquist (Creator/Writer)
Goal: $5,000
End Date:May 9
Goodies: Get the early bird physical copy bundle for $27, the digital copy for $8, cover A for $12, and much more!
The unicorn who hunts vampires with his horn (duh) battles the forces of hell!
A vampire hunter unicorn, I mean, how can you make this up? It’s fun and it’s drawn brilliantly, so you can’t blame me for not being able to wrap my head around how this exists, and readers, I love that it does. It’s just so fun, I love looking over their project because Palmquist just gave it their all. Is it a bit silly, sure, however, it was made with so much love and care that it makes the humor all the better. I think the most important part is that the story is interesting; this isn’t just a project surviving off of its art. It has a story that I find compelling and interesting, so it comes as no surprise that they already have over $7k of their $5,000 goal. Check this project out if you’re a fan of Dungeons & Dragons high fantasy, or anything in between; you won’t regret it!
The Complete Lunch Comics
Creators: James Vanderberg (Writer/Artist)
Goal: $3,000
End Date: June 5
Goodies: The issues digital copy is $10, the physical copy is $25, a comic self portrait for $50, or at higher tiers get original comic art for $150 and much more!
Lunch Comic collects five years of autobiographic comics made during my lunch hour at work and beyond!
This comic is a collection of comics Vanderberg made during their lunch break; in that time, they collected enough to make multiple comic pages worth of this project. I love it. It brings such a great form of creativity to the comic platform, and the best part, these stories are relatable and honestly make me laugh deeply because many of these issues are relatable. It’s cute, it’s funny, and most importantly, it’s well drawn in such a way that you know there was so much effort put into this. This project has only three days left to meet its goal, and it’s my hope that more people check this series out; it’s worth your time!
Our Super Adventure: Treats! (Vol. 5) + 10 Year Slipcase!
Creators: Sarah and Stef Graley
Goal: $5,000
End Date: May 8
Goodies: Get the digital copy for $14, the hardcover for $27, the t-shirt bundle for $27, or at higher tiers get the pin bundle for $27, and much more!
A fifth hardcover Our Super Adventure collection collecting more diary comics about Sarah, Stef and their four cats, and a cute boxset!
Sarah and Stef are not new names to the internet; they’ve been around for a while, and their comics have been celebrated on multiple platforms! With over 666K followers on Instagram, it’s no surprise their project has amassed over $30,000 out of their $6,000 goal. The comic follows them and their four cats, and it’s just a slice of life series that remains colorful and fun since its conception. It’s worth looking into if you love these kinds of stories, but even for newcomers who grew up with the comic strip format from their childhoods. Make sure to give it a look before it’s too late.
Bi Visibility #1: Bisexual Anthology – “Bi”-ke Shop Variant
Creators: Kat Calamia (co-creator/editor), Phil Falco (Co-creator/Editor)
Goal: $4,000
End Date: April 17
Goodies: Get the digital copy for $5, the standard issue for $15, cover b for $25 or at higher tiers get the hardcover for $35 and much more!
A 48-page comic book anthology ranging from romance to high fantasy about the bisexual experience. NEW VARIANT COVER & BRAND NEW STORY!
Bi Visibility #1 feels like the kind of comic that needs to exist. It’s loud, proud, and completely unapologetic about what it is: a collection of stories all about the bisexual experience, told across genres that range from spy thrillers to slice-of-life heartbreak. This reprint bumps the page count up to 48, adds a brand-new story from the Slice of Life universe, and comes wrapped in the super slick “Bi-ke Shop” cover by Sara Soler. Honestly, it’s wild to me that something this packed with talent, emotion, and style isn’t already on everyone’s shelf. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s got that DIY energy that makes indie comics so special. If you’re looking for representation, killer art, or just a damn good read; this is the one.
