“A Nest Of Serpents – Part One: Slaves Of The Magi”

A quarter moon stood high in the night sky as a stranger to the Kushian town of Daynt stalked a group of local denisons. These men were hiding a secret which could affect those who had just entered the squallored walls proper. Conan was on the hunt for answers and the deceitfulness of the townsfolk would be obvious even to a young child. Their continuous smile was the chief giveaway. What strange force had caused every man, woman, and child to hold such a bizarre expression?

Conan leaped between rooftops with the stealth of a jungle panther – quiet and with furtiveness. Near the northern outskirts of Daynt, the Cimmerian watched as the bewitched men began dumping large silver platters of food they carried from the local inn into a cage-covered pit. Whatever awaited within that dark recess, Conan speculated, would be fated to his caravan.

“Thoth-Amon: Sorcerer Of The Black Ring”

Have you ever wondered who Thoth-Amon was, and how he fit into the Conan universe? Jeffrey Shanks provides everything you need to know about this Stygian villain, from his pulp fiction origins, through to the Marvel Comics years, into the Hollywood adaptation of Conan the Destroyer. This is a great article for any Hyborian historian looking to up their game.

“Ferocious Back-And-Forth”

This section of the comic book features an interview of sorts with Conan inker, Fernando dagnino. There is some amusing banter her. You better read it

Reviewer Notes

To me, the writing in this issue seemed slightly anemic compared to other scripts Jim Zub has delivered. Titan Comics posted the credits on the last page of the story. There was such a difference in the narration I assumed another writer had taken over for Conan the Barbarian #21.

There is nothing wrong with the storyline, it just seems to be missing some flare. As a matter of fact, I did enjoy the exposé by Jeffrey Shanks much more than the lead story. No matter. I give this issue a solid three out of five star review. Now I’m off to research Thoth-Amon in much more detail.
