Dark Souls is officially confirmed to be returning later this year. Yen Press will release a third volume of the Dark Souls: Redemption manga.
The new release is currently available for pre-order and is scheduled to go on sale on September 22nd, per Yen Press's official website. "The tenuous alliance between a guardian, a keeper, and a hunter calms in ruin’s wake. Yet, like a candle against a gale, hope flickers with each passing moment," the synopsis of the new dark fantasy story reads. Author Julien Blondel returns for the third release, having previously penned both prior volumes.
Dark Souls Returns with New Redemption Story Arc
Image via Yen PressThe Yen Press synopsis for Dark Souls: Redemption, Vol 3 continues to reveal more about where the upcoming story based on FromSoftware's hit game will take its heroes: "In these cursed lands, hope is the sliver of dawn which beats back the night. Be it for duty, family, or survival— our heroes will march into the winds of a world lost to ash and despair."
As bleak as the world may seem, all hope is not lost. "But the waning light of their hope cannot illuminate every dark corner of the world. And somewhere in the black stirs a reckoning which comes to snuff it out..."
The first two volumes, which are both available now, tell similar stories. Vol. 1, which was released in 2024 and subtitled Humanity Lost, sees a nameless woman waking, roused from a tomb by a past she cannot recall and setting out into a barren, unfamiliar landscape. The protector follows, safeguarding her against the dangers of the terrifying world she explores.
The second Dark Souls manga volume came out in July 2025 and was titled Bonfire. The protagonists once again battled the winds of despair, trying to rekindle the flames that would save the land.
The new Yen Press story is the latest installment in the bestselling franchise, though fans have been waiting for a new video game installment for a decade now. The series began back in 2011 with Dark Souls, with two sequels following in 2014 and 2016. In 2017, a compilation of the third game titled The Fire Fades Edition was released, and in 2018, a remastered version of the original title followed, but it's been quiet on the gaming front ever since.
Dark Souls Continues to Explore Its Bleak Lands in Comics
Image via FromSoftwareDark Souls: Redemption will continue its story in September, but it's far from the first foray into comics for the successful franchise. Titan Comics released its own story alongside Dark Souls III in 2016. It was helmed by Star Wars writer George Mann and horror artist Alan Quah, making for the perfect team to bring the video game's unique aesthetics to the page.
Titan Comics' ongoing releases have followed various heroes on different quests within Dark Souls' world. The most recent release, Dark Souls: Mother of Mourning #4 was published on May 20, 2026. Joining Dark Souls: Redemption Vol 3 this September will be Titan Comics' own Dark Souls: Mother of Mourning, Vol. 1, which hits comic book shops on Sept. 15.
Dark Souls: Redemption Vol. 3 will be released Sept. 22 by Yen Press.
