Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.

This article contains a major spoiler for Absolute Green Lantern #3.

He was born on a Monday, christened on a Tuesday and married on a Wednesday. He took ill on Thursday, worse on Friday, died on Saturday and was buried on Sunday. That was, however, not the end of what's become one of the most dangerous and horrifying forces in DC Comics history — thanks to the Absolute Universe.

Absolute Green Arrow has taken flight like so many arrows fired from Oliver Queen's bow, and in large part becuse of the massive plot twists apropros to the Absolute Universe, one such twist includes the death of Queen at the hands of the Green Arrow Killer.

That means Queen can suddenly empathize with what some view as DC Comics' version of Marvel's Incredible Hulk: Solomon Grundy.

As a quick refresher for those who might've somehow forgotten, Solomon Grundy is a classic DC Comics character that consists of a reanimated corpse with insane superhuman strength (he's gone toe-to-toe with Superman before, and won, on occasion), stamina, immortality and, by the way, he's almost invincible.

Grundy also regenerates at a rapid pace, and he's been known, in some arcs, to control plant life; and he's mostly immune to energy, physical or magic attacks while benefiting from the fact his soul always resurrects him in the Slaughter Swamp if/whenever his physical form is beyond repair.

Sorry Hulk, but not even the Abomination would put up this kind of fight, or this type of visual horror.

Solomon Grundy is DC's Hulk, And He's More Gruesome Than Ever

Grundy is officially back, returning in Absolute Green Lantern #3 in a stunning cliffhanger, scaring the hell out of Dinah — Arrow's girlfriend Dinah Lance — in the process. This comes just as she believes she's making headway into the investigation of Queen's death.

Per the official Absolute Green Lantern #3 synopsis: "DINAH ON THE TRAIL OF THE GREEN ARROW KILLER! After the horrifying events of last issue, Dinah must capture the Green Arrow Killer as she finally finds Oliver Queen's protege, Roy Harper. But as the killer's attacks intensify and Dinah discovers the unsettling effect they're having on Star City, Harper's trail takes her on a journey darker and more twisted than she ever imagined."

Not that Grundy was ever going to win a beauty contest for DC Comics, but adding a bunch of eyeballs to his already-decayed frame is the stuff of nightmares.

Absolute Green Arrow Stuns with Solomon Grundy Cliffhanger

"The gray-skinned behemoth is covered in eyes, just like the boy Dinah found on Oliver’s property," TJ Mills of ScreenRant says in his review. "Absolute Green Arrow #3 ends with the shocking reveal of Solomon Grundy, leaving readers with one terrifying question: Why do these anti-death experiments appear to cover their subjects in eyeballs?"

He continued: "Whatever the answer, it will likely be something truly horrifying. And if Roy is right that Oliver Queen is still alive, he may very well be running around covered in eyeballs as well."

It sure would be fun for DC Studios to take a literal page out of DC Comics' book and schedule Solomon Grundy for a rematch with Kal-El in a future DCU episode of HBO Max's hit series My Adventures With Superman, to remind everyone why he has been known to scare even Superman. But, for now, Absolute Green Arrow isn't afraid to scratch the undead itch.
