DC's new Wonder Woman is unlike any version of the character that fans have ever seen.
Absolute Wonder Woman #1 drops readers into the middle of the new, harrowing vision of the DC Universe known as the Absolute Universe. There, the last of all Amazons is born into a waking nightmare, only to be cast from her former home on Earth and deep into the pits of Hell where she is cared for by none other than the witch Circe. Surprisingly, this Circe is more than willing to give the young Amazon whatever glimmer of hope she can provide, giving rise to a new Wonder Woman who is fiercer than any version of the character to ever grace the pages of DC Comics.

DC's Absolute Universe was first seen in the pages of Dark Nights: Death Metal #7 by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, though it was a far cry from the reality fans know today. At the time of its introduction, this reality, known as the Elseworld, was still in its infancy. Though the likes of the Justice League were aware of its presence, they could not make any proper contact with it, nor could they see what mysteries it might hold.
It wasn't until the events of the recently released DC All In Special by Joshua Williamson, Scott Snyder, Daniel Sampere, Wes Craig, Mike Spicer, Alejandro Sánchez, and Tamra Bonvillain that the Absolute Universe was given a proper form of its own. This came about as the result of the apparent death of Darkseid, who had forcefully bonded himself to the living Wrath of God known as The Spectre. With Darkseid's destruction, the villainous New God was somehow able to cross over into the Absolute Universe before merging with this new reality in its entirety.

Superman's most lethal foe is officially back and stronger than ever, but this time he isn't looking for a rematch with the Man of Steel.
Since then, the Absolute Universe has given rise to a variety of new, largely brutalist takes on iconic DC characters. Apart from the new Wonder Woman, the Absolute Universe is also home to its very own Dark Knight who, unlike the Bruce Wayne fans know best, operates on a more overtly violent level with far fewer resources at his disposal. So far, this Batman has gone up against a band of skull-faced terrorists, as well as a version of Alfred Pennyworth who is just as much of a powerhouse unto himself as the Dark Knight he has his sights set on.
